Pricing, security, data, and what Togar does — and doesn't do
Togar is an Android receipt scanner and expense tracker for side-hustlers, investors, and 1099 earners. Below are answers on pricing, Plaid security, Google Drive backups, Schedule C export, and the AI scanning credit. Have a different question? Email support@togar.app.
Where does Togar store my data?
On your phone, encrypted with SQLCipher. Backups, receipt images, and your tax spreadsheet sync to your own Google Drive — not to any developer-operated server.
What if I lose my phone?
Restore from your Google Drive backup on a new device. Receipt images, transactions, and your organized tax spreadsheet all come back with one restore.
What does Plaid do — and do I have to use it?
Plaid connects your bank and credit cards with read-only, on-demand sync — transactions pull only when you tap Sync. Togar cannot move your money. It's optional: you can use manual entry and CSV import instead. Togar Pro ($3.99/mo for 3 months then $5.99/mo, or $39.99 first year then $54.99/yr) includes on-demand sync for up to 6 institutions. Manual and CSV accounts are always unlimited and free.
How does pricing work?
The app is free — manual entry, CSV import, dashboard, widgets, and exports with no card required. Togar Pro ($3.99/mo for your first 3 months then $5.99/mo, or $39.99 first year then $54.99/yr) adds on-demand bank sync via Plaid for up to 6 institutions and AI receipt scanning, and includes $1/mo of AI scanning credit. If you scan more in a given month, Pro members can top up the same balance. Each AI action shows its cost after use, and your remaining balance is always visible in the app.
Does Togar file my taxes or calculate crypto gains?
No. Togar organizes and parses your records — receipts, transactions, and tax documents — into a categorized spreadsheet for your CPA or tax software. You review before export. It does not compute taxes, cost basis, or file returns.
Does it work for side income and Schedule C?
Yes. Tag cards as Personal or Business. Togar separates transactions into the right ledger and organizes Schedule C-ready categories. Your CPA gets receipt-backed, correctly categorized records — Togar does not file on your behalf.
Is Togar available on iPhone?
Not yet — Togar is Android only right now, available through Google Play (currently in closed testing). There's no iOS or web app.
Can Togar move money or make payments?
No. The Plaid connection is strictly read-only — Togar can see transaction metadata (description, amount, date, category) but cannot initiate transfers, payments, or see your full account number or bank password.
What Google Drive permissions does Togar request?
Togar only accesses the app-specific folder it creates in your Drive for backups and exports — it cannot see or modify any of your other Drive files.
Does Togar work offline?
Yes. Manual entry, browsing your data, and reviewing past receipts all work without a connection. Bank sync, AI receipt scanning, and Drive backup need network access when you use them.
Can I import Amazon orders?
Yes — Amazon order history CSV import is available on every tier, including Free, so your online purchases show up as itemized records alongside scanned receipts.
How does Togar handle crypto and brokerage 1099s?
Upload the PDF or a photo of your 1099-B, 1099-DIV, or crypto exchange summary. Togar parses and organizes the document into your tax spreadsheet next to your other records. It does not calculate cost basis or capital gains — your CPA or tax software still does that math.
What exactly exports for my CPA?
A single spreadsheet in your own Google Drive: categorized transactions, receipt-linked expenses organized by Schedule C-ready categories, and your parsed tax documents. You review it before sending — Togar doesn't submit anything on your behalf.
What does Togar NOT do?
Togar does not file tax returns, calculate tax liability or cost basis, give financial or tax advice, or connect to your bank for anything beyond read-only transaction sync. It's an organizing tool, not a preparer.
How does the $1/mo AI credit actually work?
Every Pro subscription includes $1 of AI scanning credit dripped in each month — unused credit stacks, it doesn't expire monthly. Most receipt scans cost about 3¢, so $1 covers roughly 30+ scans. Each scan shows its exact cost after use, and your remaining balance is always visible on the dashboard. If you scan more than your balance covers in a given month, you can top up — there's no separate credit-pack purchase outside of Pro.
Is there a free trial of Pro?
No — there's no free trial. The Free tier itself has no time limit and needs no card, so you can use manual entry, CSV import, and all exports for as long as you like before ever subscribing to Pro.
Can I cancel Togar Pro anytime?
Yes. Subscriptions are billed and managed through Google Play, so you cancel from your Play Store subscription settings whenever you want — refunds follow Google Play's standard refund policy.
What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?
Local, on-device data is removed when you uninstall. Anything already backed up to your own Google Drive stays there until you choose to delete it yourself.
